# Loca Deserta: Settlers > Build space colonies, haul every good by ship, raise Towers to claim territory and command fleets of three rival empires. A real-time colony builder and RTS inspired by The Settlers. Free in your browser. Settle empty star systems, build supply chains that run on ships, and hold your ground against two rival empires. Inspired by The Settlers 3 and 4: every chunk of ice, sand, metal and food is carried by a real ship along a real route. Build the chain, then defend it. - Play free in the browser: https://settlers.locadeserta.com/game/ (No install, no account. Freighters carry each load from mine to factory to shipyard, and you can follow every one of them. - **Territory is everything**: Crewed Towers project your border. Kill the crew and the Tower goes dark, the border collapses, and every world inside it is up for grabs. - **Warships fight warships**: Fleets clash in real time with lasers, plasma, melta and missiles. Freighters and builders are never targets, so a war is won on ground, not on piracy. - **A campaign of the Sich**: Six Hetmanate missions take you from a Palankar's first commission to the war council of the Kish, against pirates, a Sun prefecture and a Corporate holding. - **Multiplayer**: Duel a friend or fight on maps for four and six colonies. Share a room code; the game runs peer to peer, straight from the browser. - **Browser now, Android next**: Play in the browser right now. The Android version for phones and tablets is open for pre-registration on Google Play; the App Store follows. ## A love letter to The Settlers III and IV We grew up on Blue Byte's The Settlers III (1998) and The Settlers IV (2001), and this game is our tribute to them, carried into space. - Every good is carried, one load at a time, and you can watch every trip. - Territory grows from garrisoned towers, and is lost when they fall. - Each people builds in its own style, with its own warriors and its own ways. ## Loca Deserta: Settlers vs The Settlers III and IV Looking for a game like The Settlers III or IV? This is the same loop of carried goods, production chains and tower-held borders, moved into space, played in real time, and free in your browser. | Aspect | The Settlers III / IV | Loca Deserta: Settlers | |---|---|---| | Transport (Same idea) | Carriers walk every good, one at a time, between buildings and stockpiles. | Freighter ships fly every good, one chunk per trip, between planets and stations. You can follow every run. | | Production chains (Same idea) | Wood, stone, ore, coal and food feed smelters, smiths and the army. | Ice, sand, minerals, grain and sunlight feed smelters, factories and shipyards. | | Feeding the mines (Same idea) | Miners need food, so farms, fishers and bakers keep the ore coming. | The Iron Mine runs on Grain. Starve the Fields and the ore stops. | | Stores and priorities (Same idea) | Each building buffers a few units of every good; you set transport priorities and how goods are shared out. | Each building buffers up to 8 chunks of every good; you set goods priority and the split between construction and production. | | Territory (Same idea) | Garrisoned towers and castles push out your border; lose them and the land goes with them. | Crewed Towers project your border; kill the crew and the border collapses. | | Peoples (Same idea) | Each people builds in its own style, with its own soldiers. | Three empires, each with its own architecture, its own hulls and one ship nobody else can build. | | Setting (Different) | Ancient and medieval lands on a tile map. | Star systems: planets, asteroid fields and orbital stations. | | Workers (Different) | Every building needs a settler, often with a tool, before it runs. | Buildings run on their inputs alone; ships do the carrying and the building. | | Raw resources (Different) | Foresters replant trees; ore seams run out. | Each asteroid holds 40 chunks and runs out; planet sources keep producing. | | Combat (Different) | Swordsmen and bowmen fight on foot. | Warship fleets fight in real time with lasers, plasma, melta and missiles, and earn bronze, silver and gold ranks. Freighters are never targets. | | How you play (Different) | A PC game you buy and install. | Free in the browser, with no install and no account. Multiplayer runs peer to peer. | ### Questions from Settlers players **Is there a game like The Settlers III or IV set in space?** Yes. Loca Deserta: Settlers keeps the carried-goods economy, the production chains and the tower-held borders of The Settlers III and IV, and moves them to star systems, where freighter ships do the carrying and warship fleets do the fighting. It is free to play in the browser at settlers.locadeserta.com/game/. **How is it different from The Settlers?** There are no walking settlers: freighters fly every load, buildings run without workers, and the army is a fleet of warships fighting in real time. The world is planets, asteroids and stations instead of a tile map, and the game runs in a browser. **Is it an official Settlers game?** No. It is an independent game and a tribute. The Settlers® is a registered trademark of Ubisoft Entertainment, and Loca Deserta: Settlers is not affiliated with Ubisoft or Blue Byte. **Do I need to buy or install anything?** No. It is free and runs in any modern desktop browser with WebGL, in English, Ukrainian and German. The Android version is open for pre-registration on Google Play, and an App Store version is on the way. ## From a drop of water to a warship Metal is not dug out of the ground in one go: it is grown, mined and smelted. Follow one chain from the planet's seas to the shipyard. Every arrow is a real freighter run you can watch on the map. - **Everything rides a ship**: A building makes one chunk per cycle, and a freighter carries one chunk per trip. Nothing teleports: a good no ship can reach does not exist for you. - **Miners have to eat**: The Iron Mine runs on Grain. Starve the Fields and the ore stops, the Smelters go cold, and the shipyard falls silent. - **Every building keeps its own pace**: Fields and Mineral Mines turn out a chunk three times as fast as a Smelter, so one Field can feed several mines. Getting the ratios right is the game. - **Full stores stop the line**: A building holds only a few chunks of each good. When nobody hauls its output away, it stops and waits: a jam you can see and clear. ## Three empires, one sector Every empire buys its warp engines from Jovian Europa. Nobody regulated the fuel. Then gladium was found, and settling an empty system became the quietest way to start a war. ### Hetmanate Federation *One for all and all for the Kish.* A Cossack federation of self-governing palankas and elected otamans. Fast to settle, stubborn to dislodge, and organised for war only when the Kish is raised. Story campaign: six missions, playable now. - [The Hetmanate Federation in the universe wiki](https://scifi.locadeserta.com/en/Universe/Empires/Hetmanate-Federation/Hetmanate-Federation) ### Sun Empire *The Emperor's word is law.* An empire of assignments and registers, ruled by an Emperor elected for life. Disciplined, endlessly replenished, and certain that a person without an assignment has no place in creation. Playable in every map and in multiplayer. Its own campaign is in development. - [The Empire of the Sun in the universe wiki](https://scifi.locadeserta.com/en/Universe/Empires/Empire-of-the-Sun/Empire-of-the-Sun) ### Corporate Republic *Serve the corporation, and the corporation will serve you.* A shareholders' republic of chartered corporations. Its fleet is advanced and expensive, its crews are contractors, and every colony is an investment with a return date. Playable in every map and in multiplayer. Its own campaign is in development. - [The Corporate Republic in the universe wiki](https://scifi.locadeserta.com/en/Universe/Empires/Corporate-Republic/Corporate-Republic) ## The fleets Each empire flies its own hulls for the same three roles, plus one ship nobody else can build. Compare them and pick the line you want to hold. - **Sokil** (Hetmanate Federation, Interceptor): The Hetmanate's most common warship: a single-seat interceptor that trades armour for speed and screens the fleet with twin lasers. - **Dub** (Hetmanate Federation, Defender): A heavy defence ship built around an armoured core. It takes the first exchange, closes the distance, and answers with melta. - **Tavr** (Hetmanate Federation, Assault): The backbone of every strike squadron. Horned, layered in armour, and built for long battles at long range. - **Lom** (Hetmanate Federation, Rammer): No guns at all. A reinforced ram with bronze horns that flies straight into the enemy line. There's no counter to a crowbar. - **Zhuque** (Sun Empire, Interceptor): The Vermilion Bird of the south: a lean red arrowhead that screens the imperial line with lasers. - **Xuanwu** (Sun Empire, Defender): The Black Tortoise of the north. Thick pressure hulls under fitted armour cassettes, holding the line with melta. - **Baihu** (Sun Empire, Assault): The White Tiger, beast of metal and the killing season: the only one of the Four Symbols that is a weapon, not a guardian. - **Qinglong** (Sun Empire, Cloaker): The Azure Dragon carries no gun. Its cloud emitter veils friendly hulls so the enemy cannot lock on to them. - **Eagle** (Corporate Republic, Interceptor): A bald eagle in level flight: the Republic's fast interceptor, white-winged over a navy hull. - **Harpy** (Corporate Republic, Defender): Named for the heaviest eagle there is. A heraldic eagle displayed, armoured to hold a line and its Towers. - **Aquila** (Corporate Republic, Assault): The legion's eagle in a stoop: wings swept back into a red dart, the Republic's main attack ship. - **Thunderbird** (Corporate Republic, Jammer): Its microwave beam barely scratches a hull. What it does is switch the target's guns off. Every warship serves through three ranks. A promotion refits the hull in bronze, silver and then gold, and each refit bolts on more weapons. ## The Loca Deserta universe The game is one corner of a larger setting: three empires that divided the stars by lottery on Mars, a scientific republic on Jovian Europa that holds the secret of warp, and centuries of history behind every hull. - [Main history of the universe](https://scifi.locadeserta.com/en/Universe/History/Main-History-of-the-Universe): From the first warp jump in year 0 of the Stellar Era to the empires of today. - [The Martian Division of the World](https://scifi.locadeserta.com/en/Universe/History/Martian-Division-of-the-World): Each emperor drew tickets for a sector of the sky. The Hetmanate drew the one with the Canis Major Void. - [Jovian Europa](https://scifi.locadeserta.com/en/Universe/Jovian-Europa/Jovian-Europa): The demilitarised moon where warp was invented, and where every empire still buys its engines. - [Warp](https://scifi.locadeserta.com/en/Universe/Technologies/Warp/Warp): Why a jump needs a gas giant, a reactor and lawrencium or nobelium, and why only the largest ships can make one. - [Khartsyzy](https://scifi.locadeserta.com/en/Universe/Empires/Hetmanate-Federation/Military-Affairs/Khartsyzy): Anyone who will not submit to the Star Sich: deserters, retired Cossacks and bandits who sit on other people's worlds. - [Explore the universe wiki](https://scifi.locadeserta.com/en/) ## Optional - The game is in active development and free to play.
